This luxury villa in Andalucia has a superb location for those seeking a quiet relaxing holiday soaking up the atmosphere, or joining in the many activities and sight seeing trips available. Either way we hope you will enjoy this protected area of outstanding natural beauty and be captivated by the charm of the real rustic rural Spain.
We are 12kms (7.5 miles) from the AP7 – the Autopista del Mediteraneo (a toll motorway) so virtually all the major sights and activities of the Costa del Sol and the Costa de Luz (the Atlantic coast) are less than a forty minute drive from the house.
Although this luxury villa is located in “real” Spain, it is only 10 miles (17kms) from the nearest Mediterranean town, at St. Luis de Sabinillas (known locally as Sabinillas) with its full range of facilities, supermarkets and shops and perfect-for-families, safe Blue Flag beaches. So it really does have the best of both worlds.
The white villages of Casares (3 miles) and Gaucin (6 miles) have a full range of small (some very good) shops and both have some excellent restaurants. Both are extremely picturesque and well worth a visit.. Two kms (one mile) up the road from us, towards Casares, is Venta la Laguna – an excellent simple Spanish venta (small inn) with a grumpy (actually shy) owner who has gradually come to accept us! Behind the venta is a queseria (cheese shop) with award- winning goat’s cheese and other local produce and next door to the venta is a very basic baker/grocery store. They sell rustic bread (interesting and very healthy!) and, in season, excellent sweet potatoes.
There is so much to do here in terms of sightseeing and activities – Ronda is only 40 kms (25 miles) and the drive there is a photographic paradise. If you are interested in military history Gibraltar is fascinating – an easy day trip (take your passports).
Further afield, Jerez and Cadiz can be “done” in a day’s drive. Morocco is a ferry trip away (a day in Tangier by fast ferry from Tarifa is worth considering – American visitors please check your visa requirements – though we think these are sorted out on the ferry). Seville can be done in a (long) day, as can Granada and the Alhambra but we recommend staying in Granada overnight, Cordoba is fabulous – again, we recommend staying overnight. and visiting the incredible Moorish ruins of Medina Azahara about 20 kms west of Cordoba.
