Set in a 6 acre (2.5 hectare) plot, with landscaped gardens
and a superb 11.5 m x 5m pool, the villa has been built
in traditional Andaluz style and is furnished with
antiques, rugs, pictures, a library of books, and
everything that makes a house a home.
Accessed by a 200 metre gravel road which leads off the country road between Casares and Gaucín, a path lined on both sides by orange trees (subtly lit at night) leads from the parking area to the very substantial 400 m2 villa. Despite being recently built to modern specifications, the villa retains a traditonal Andaluz appearance , with gleaming white walls and old terracotta roof tiles. Thick walls, vaulted ceilings, terracotta tiled floors, archways and shutters, ensure it is cool in summer and warm in winter.
Kitchen
The kitchen is extensively equipped with a large range cooker with five gas rings, two electric ovens, grill, griddle and plate warmer, American style fridge/freezer with ice maker & water dispenser, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, kettle, electric deep fat fryer, smoothie maker. There is enough crockery, glassware, cutlery to entertain in grand style if you want to! Dish cloths, tea towels, hand towels, cooking apron and oven gloves are supplied.
Living Areas
The dining room with its antique Victorian dining table has seating for twelve. The living room seats eight comfortably and extra seating is available. Two sofas face a glass fronted wood-burning fireplace and a flat screen satellite TV (with both full Sky and Spanish channels), a DVD and video player. There is also an integrated sound system with speakers in all main rooms (as well as on the covered verandah outside). Free wi-fi broadband connection is available. Books, CDs, DVDs and family board games are available to guests. Double doors from both the dining room and the living room lead to a large arched, shaded verandah with a brightly cushioned Moroccan-style day bed, dining table and chairs. The kitchen door leads out to a terracotta-tiled sun terrace with a dining table, chairs and the barbecue. There are ceiling fans in all living areas.
Bedrooms
Upstairs there are two large bedroom suites with vaulted ceilings and ceiling fans. The master bedroom has an en-suite shower room and is connected to the house sound system. It leads on to a large arched covered verandah with a day bed, Thai-style sofas and a rowing machine. The views from this verandah are stunning.
The other first-floor bedroom has an en-suite bathroom (with a shower over the bath) and double doors to a small balcony with equally magnificent views across the Genal valley.
A double bedroom on the ground floor has been furnished and fitted with elderly visitors in mind, with a fold up seat in the en-suite shower and double doors leading straight out onto the ground floor terrace – again with stunning views. This bedroom can be closed off from the main villa in the low season so that the property may be rented as a 2 bedroom villa (380 sq m.) at a lower rate (low/winter season only).
All bedrooms have super king-size beds which can also be converted to full size single beds if preferred. Bed linen is freshly ironed white Egyptian cotton with duvets or, in summer, cotton blankets. Adult dressing gowns, hair driers, bath, pool and hand towels are all supplied. We have three travel cots suitable for babies up to 15 kgs and we also camping-style beds (including linen) for children under five sharing bedrooms with adults. Please note, however, that we do not supply bed linen for the travel cots – please bring your own bed linen for babies using the travel cots.
The Gardens
The landscaped gardens immediately around the house have an automated irrigation system and a fountain centrepiece on the terrace. Lemon, orange, mandarin, pomegranate, olive and fig trees have been planted, along with a wide variety of herbs, ornamental trees and shrubs including hibiscus, roses, bougainvillea, jasmine, rosemary, bay and lavender. You are welcome to pick the fruit and use the herbs.
The Swimming Pool and Sun Terrace
A flight of gently graded steps leads down to the blue-tiled swimming pool with its extensive, tiled sunbathing area. Hammocks are slung under the large covered pergola at one end of the pool, and there are 6 sun beds, 6 deck chairs, a dining table and benches. Underwater lights, together with a power point and lighting under the pergola make this a perfect spot for evening meals beside the pool. There is an outside pool shower and a small changing room with WC, hand-basin, work surface and cupboards containing a full range of plastic poolside plates, cutlery and glasses. Views over the surrounding countryside are, of course, divine.
